Maruti Suzuki Rules the Roost in FY16

BENGALURU: 6 models from the auto giant Maruti Suzuki made it to the top ten best selling cars list in the financial year 2016. The list confirmed the country's largest carmaker tightening its grip on the Indian market for yet another year. The list also indicates that the behavior of customers didn’t change drastically from the years gone by although they moved out of the purely budget and mileage oriented buys, reports NDTV.

It’s no secret that Maruti Suzuki always has been the most liked car manufacturer among Indians, since the first Maruti Suzuki 800 to the more recent Maruti Celerio. Hence, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the company has done better this FY compared to the last FY14-15 where it had five models featured in the top ten selling cars list. Here’s the list of the six models from Maruti that ruled the roost.

Maruti Suzuki Alto

Units Sold: 2, 63,422

Alto has been India's favourite small car for some time now which is precisely why it hardly comes as a surprise that it has been the highest selling car domestically for ten years in a row. As a matter of fact, Alto was on the verge of being adjudged the world’s top selling car in 2010 and 2011, only to be denied by the German auto giant Volkswagen's Golf in terms of sales in Brazil in 2012.

Maruti Suzuki DZire

Units Sold: 2, 34,242

Maruti DZire replaced Esteem in Maruti’s lineup and its massive reach in smaller cities and towns has sky-rocketed its popularity brushing aside competition from Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent. Maruti Suzuki first launched DZire in 2008, with the current model arriving in 2012.
