Car of the Week: Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton


Bangalore: Auto major Mahindra & Mahindra launched a premium SUV 'Rexton' from the SsangYong stable. The first launch from its Korean arm is produced at the Chakan plant with some localisation, the company said. In November 2010, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) had signed a definitive agreement with Ssangyong Motor Company to acquire 70 per cent stake in the ailing South Korean automaker at a total cost of $463 million (about 2,105 crore). "A manual model of the sports utility vehicle (SUV) is priced at 17.67 lakh ex-Mumbai and the automatic version at 19.67 lakh," M&M president, automotive and farm equipment, Pawan Goenka said at the launch. The car is the first high-end SUV from the Mumbai-based auto firm. The company said it has invested over 63 crore at its Chakan plant for this model.

Power

The company has provided the car with a 2.7 litre of turbocharged engine, which leaves no stone unturned and push it towards an awesome delivery of performance. This 2696cc of diesel engine without any trouble gives out maximum power of 165BHP at the rate of 4000rpm along with producing crest torque of 34.6kgm at the rate of 1800 to 3250rpm. The engine will be coupled with a five speed automatic transmission.

Mileage

The new Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton SUV launch is round the corner and the company is making its best effort to make this one a huge success in the Indian car market. Under the bonnet, you would find a 2.7 litre of turbocharged diesel engine that is capable of giving out maximum power of 165BHP along with producing maximum torque of 340 to 402NM. The five speed automatic transmission that would be coupled with the 2696cc of engine will definitely keep the mileage a bit maintained. Apparently, this combination of engine and gearbox would make the SUV to deliver mileage around 9.1 to 9.8 km per litre.
