Android Auto Official Launch in India

BENGALURU: Android official tweeted about its launch of Android Auto platform in 18 countries including India. The platform allows the automobiles to run Android operating system on mobile devices through the dashboard's head unit. The Android Auto mobile app was initially released on March 19, 2015. Android Auto is designed to minimize distraction while on road and focus on driving, reports Gadgets 360°NDTV.

The tweet by Android official suggests that it entered into 18 new countries including India, Argentina, Austria, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile and many other countries. Previously it was available in a total of 29 countries like Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, the UK, and the U.S.

In the meanwhile, the company has updated the platform to v1.6 that brings several features including enhanced phone-car connection, as well as the ability to browse the music collection. The adoption of the Android Auto platform by local and international manufacturers of in-dash infotainment systems and cars can see a major boom in India. By connecting an Android phone to the compatible vehicle or radio, Android Auto will display applications on the vehicle’s screen. The technology links smart phones and tablets with an in-vehicle infotainment system. To use Android Auto, a user needs an Android Auto compatible vehicle or aftermarket radio and an Android phone running Lollipop or higher.

Previously, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd had plans to bring the new platform in its vehicles. Soon, India can witness the Android Auto in its upcoming Mahindra's sports utility vehicles XUV 500, Scorpio and other future projects.
