Bangalore: Though we are allowed to choose what to eat, a few foodstuffs have its own set of controversies and health risks, because of which they have been banned from sale. An astonishing number of these items have been banned as they either use endangered species of animals as their main ingredient, the cooking method is considered brutal, cause health issues or due to the country’s fundamental policies. Here is a list of illegal foods from around the world

#1.The Foie-ck A Duck Burger

Foie gras is a food product made from the liver of a duck or goose. The purpose of this is to enlarge the liver, by force-feeding the birds with corn. It deposits large amounts of fat in the liver, thereby producing the buttery consistency required for the gourmet. Toulouse geese and Mulard ducks are the most commonly used breeds.

The feed is operated using a funnel fitted with a long tube of 20-30 cm which forces the feed into the animal's esophagus. If an auger is used, the feeding takes about 45 to 60 seconds. Modern systems usually use a tube fed by a pneumatic pump through a slit cut in the esophagus. With such a system, the operation time per duck takes about 2 to 3 seconds. Gavage-based foie gras production is controversial due to the force-feeding procedure and it is banned in California and other countries.
