2. Gobi Desert (China & Mongolia)
Gobi desert covers most parts of the Northern and Northeastern China and of Southern Mongolia. It is the largest desert in Asia and it expands at a quick pace of 1390 square miles over the grasslands of Southern China per year. The eco-regions in the desert include various geological features such as mountains, salt marshes, landscapes and sand dunes. The Mogao Caves, a series of Buddhist cave temples situated here is a UNESCO world heritage site and it houses 1000 years of Buddhist artworks.
