 Abbott Launches New Digital Service in India; Bridges Communication between Doctors & Consumers

Abbott, a global healthcare company launched its new digital health service in India as part of its global a:care program. The new program offers doctors and consumers with services and information to help people achieve better health. The health service will have both online and offline components as part of its offering.

Jawed Zia, Vice President, Abbott, says, “This is a transformational time in healthcare. We’re seeing rapidly growing populations of people with chronic diseases in the country. The need for technology-based services that help people manage these health challenges has never been greater. a:care is an important part of Abbott’s mission to help people live healthier lives”.

First of its kind, the digital platform will bridge communication between patients and doctors across multiple therapy areas. Abbott’s global a:care program not only help people manage their health, but also to help alleviate some of the pressure on growing healthcare systems around the world. Also, the number of doctors per 1,000 people is well below the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) average of 2.8. Now, with the introduction of emerging technologies that use data and artificial intelligence to monitor patients, targeted education and precise information can aid the people work together at every stage of a healthcare treatment plan.

The digital platform will currently include three specialty areas, namely diabetes, thyroid and osteoarthritis and in the first phase, a:care will address the needs of doctors and patients, while pharmacists will added later. India is the first country in which Abbott launches the digital platform and can be found online or as a web app downloaded from Android Play Store.
