Young India Wants Jobs, Girls, Social Status: Chetan Bhagat

Bangalore: So what does young India yearn for? Author Chetan Bhagat says Young India's rallying cry is simple."Meri Naukri, Meri Chokri (My job, my girl)". They want love, they want money and they want stature in society, says the popular mass fiction writer and media columnist.

"They want a good life and a great girlfriend. If your cause will help them get a good life, then they are with you. That is what young India wants. The social causes must be linked to this ambition," Bhagat said.

The author of best-sellers like "Five Point Someone", "One Night@The Call Centre", "Two States" and "Revolution 20:20", Bhagat has put together his newspaper articles on the changing India into a volume of non-fiction, "What Young India Wants: Selected Essays and Columns (Rupa & Co)".

Some of the question Bhagat attempts to tackle in the book are "Why do our students regularly commit suicide? Why is there so much corruption in India? Can't our political parties ever work together? Does our vote make any difference at all? We love our India, but shouldn't some things be different?" as reported by IBN Live.
