While 'Aam Aadmi' Struggles For Petrol, CM's Get 700 litres free
Bangalore: The government is on the verge of imposing fuel consumption curb on the people of India. On 30th August, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stated in the parliament about the need to minimize consumption of fuel in the country. He said his government is working on conservation program to inform people on the importance of economizing usage of fuel, which could save thousands of crores that India spends on oil imports, reports Ambika Pandit of TNN.
Meanwhile, petroleum minister Veerappa Moily’s recent proposal on petrol services to shut down by 8pm in the country stirred strong opposition from the citizens of India. The Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit feels the amount of fuel given to her is enough for her to travel; it’s now up to the “aam admi” to cut down on fuel expenses and start using public transport.
In reply to Dikshit’s statement, the Times of India researched to know the amount of fuel consumed by the Delhi government. According to the report, apart from the Ministers, even the officers in the legislature get 700 liters of fuel every month.
India as a whole has 77 union Ministers, with each mantri having 3 staff cars. The average fuel consumption of these officers in a month is 46,200 litres. A common man pays about
82 for a litre of fuel, where as the ministers and their officers pay nothing and they receive free fuel on monthly basis.
