VPN Access for X Platform, Says Musk to Brazilians
In the midst of an escalating dispute between Elon Musk and the Brazilian judiciary, the tech mogul urged users in Brazil to access the social media platform X via virtual private networks (VPNs). This move comes as a response to a recent order by Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes to block certain X accounts, the specifics of which have not been disclosed by either Musk or the authorities.
Musk, known for his roles in Tesla and SpaceX, took to X to advise users on how to bypass the restrictions, stating, “To ensure that you can still access the X platform, download a virtual private network (VPN) app”. He emphasized the simplicity of using VPNs and stressed the importance of truth.
This action follows Musk's earlier defiance against the Supreme Court's order, where he vowed to lift all restrictions, even if it meant closing their office in Brazil. Criticizing Judge Alexandre, Musk publicly questioned his motives, stating, "Why are you doing this @alexandre?"
Subsequently, Musk announced via X that they would be lifting all restrictions, citing excessive fines, threats of employee arrests, and access cuts to X in Brazil. Despite the potential loss of revenue and the need to shut down their Brazilian office, Musk asserted that principles outweighed profit.
The dispute highlights the clash between tech giants and governmental authorities over content moderation and free speech, with Musk taking a firm stance on principles amid mounting legal pressure. As the situation unfolds, the repercussions for both X and Musk's ventures in Brazil remain uncertain.
