Vodafone Idea Partners with Cisco to Boost 4G and 5G Services in India
Telecom operator Vodafone Idea (Vi) has joined forces with global technology company Cisco to upgrade its network infrastructure, aiming to enhance mobile internet services across India. The collaboration will see Vi implement Cisco’s Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based transport network, designed to improve the reliability and capacity of its 4G and 5G services.
The new MPLS system will enable Vi to manage growing data traffic more efficiently, resulting in faster, more stable internet connections for users. As a result, Vi customers can expect smoother video streaming, enhanced video call quality, better online gaming experiences, and improved browsing speeds. Additionally, the upgrade will provide businesses with more secure and dependable internet access, crucial for daily operations in the digital age.
The modernized network will also leverage software-based tools to improve service management, potentially reducing operational costs and accelerating the launch of new services. Jagbir Singh, Chief Technology Officer at Vi, emphasized that the partnership with Cisco aligns with the company’s commitment to staying ahead in mobile technology. He noted that Cisco’s MPLS expertise would enable better network automation and data traffic management.
Cisco’s Vice President for Service Providers in EMEA, Gordon Thomson, highlighted that this collaboration would help build a future-ready network, ensuring reliable and faster connectivity across India. This upgrade marks a significant step towards enhancing the overall customer experience and meeting the evolving demands of the digital world.
