U.S. witnessed Dandi March II against corruption.

New York: 81 years back, Mahatma Gandhi led Dandi March in 1930 to inspire and unite Indians to put pressure on foreign rule. Generations have passed, but his means and methods are still inspiring people around the world to make their voices heard. Taking inspiration from the Mahatma, a group of Non Resident Indians conceived Dandi March II to fight the scourge of corruption plaguing India. They started on March 12 and covered 240 miles from San Diego to San Francisco which concluded on March 26th. Thousands of India government for the enactment of Jan Lokpal Bill and ratify UNCAC immediately. They demanded the Indian government to institute an independent agency with powers to investigate and prosecute the corrupt. Wearing white t-shirts and caps, they marched to Mahatma Gandhi statue in Bellevue Regional Library. They paid homage to the Mahatma by offering a garland and by lighting candles in front of his statue. Several prominent Indians in Seattle addressed the gathering. Expressing angst over the flurry of scams uncovered recently in India, Sudip Gorakshakar emphasized that corruption leads to depletion of national wealth and how the same money could have been used to address the infrastructure problems and abject poverty in India. Ramanlal Patel an eminent yoga teacher compared the current movement to the Satyagraha movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi in India. Encouraging the youth to join the movement and take it forward, he said that change would definitely be possible if everybody stood united for the cause. Everyone signed a petition that would be sent to the Prime Minister's Office and several Members of the Parliament expressing their frustration over the systemic corruption rooted in the country. As per Transparency International which measures the perceived levels of public sector corruption in 178 countries around the world, India's rank deteriorated from 84 to 87th rank. The paramount corruption in the last few years has done no good to the image of India not only in the eyes of its own citizen but also in the international perspective. The sacrifice and efforts of our freedom fighters got us an Independent India but to free India from corruption these Non Resident Indians feel that we not only need one Mahatma but thousands of common people to bestow India of its own glory. Dandi March 2 is a warning from Indian's residing not only in India, but throughout the world to all those who are misusing the power. These Indians are saying that the fight against corruption has just begun and it is better that the government amends its ways. Otherwise the people power will sweep the corrupt away in the same manner as the historic Dandi March started by Bapu swept the Britishers away from their firm roots.
