Unsolved Mystery: World's 7 Airplane Disappearances

British South American Airways Star Tiger and Star Ariel disappears in the Bermuda Triangle, 1948 and 1949: Star Tiger, an Avro Tudor IV passenger aircraft owned and operated by British South American Airways disappeared without a trace over the Atlantic Ocean while on a flight between Santa Maria in the Azores and Bermuda on 30 January 1948. The loss of this still remains unsolved to this day, with the resulting speculation helping to develop the Bermuda Triangle legend.

The plane was thought to have blown off course and must have flown directly into a gale to reach Bermuda. The lookout plane arrived safely just after 4am - but the Star Tiger was never seen or heard from again. From then on, control stations were unable to contact the plane and, although there was no distress message, receiving stations were still able to listen to the Star Tiger's frequency. Unfortunately, a five-day rescue effort failed to find neither the plane, nor its 31 passengers and crew.
Another BSSA passenger aircraft, the Star Ariel, was travelling between Bermuda and Kingston, Jamaica. Despite contact an hour into the flight by the Captain, messages stopped and a search was instigated. No trace of the plane or its 20 passengers and crew have ever been found. An investigation concluded the cause of the accident was unknown, but Don Bennett, former director of BSAA claimed both Star Tiger and Star Ariel had been sabotaged by a "known war-registered saboteur."
