UIDAI Launches New Aadhaar App for Seamless Digital Verification
In a bid to boost digital ease and safeguard user privacy, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new Aadhaar app to streamline Aadhaar verification procedures. Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the app in New Delhi.
The recently released app allows consumers to digitally validate and share their Aadhaar details without having a physical Aadhaar card or photocopied copy. The application provides Face ID authentication, providing users the choice to authenticate with facial recognition technology using their own mobile devices.
Aadhaar authentication becomes as easy as doing a UPI payment. Now users can digitally authenticate and share their Aadhaar information while maintaining their privacy," said Minister Vaishnaw in a video message posted on social media site X.
One of the app's most important features is QR code-based verification, which offers a quick, secure, and paperless way to verify identity. With a single tap, users can reveal only the information needed, with complete control over their personal data.
"No physical card, no photocopies. The app empowers citizens by giving them complete control over what data they want to share and with whom," Vaishnaw stressed.
The minister emphasized that this development is a continuation of the government's efforts to create a strong Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). The app has been developed with top-level privacy protections so that Aadhaar data cannot be tampered with, edited, or misused. All data is shared securely and only with the user's express permission.
Still in its beta testing stage, the app is poised to assist users in a number of industries from hotel reception to airport security by eliminating the necessity for hard copies of Aadhaar.
Referencing Aadhaar as the 'aadhaar' (basis) of numerous government services, Vaishnaw reaffirmed the need to marry artificial intelligence with DPI to further enhance digital innovation while protecting the privacy of individuals.
He asked stakeholders to offer suggestions on possible AI integration options, affirming the government's resolve to achieve a safe, inclusive, and technology-enabled future.
