Trump Appoints Two Indian Americans as Special Assistants
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed two Indian Americans, Ricky Gill and Saurabh Sharma, as special assistants in his team, focusing on national security and personnel matters.
Ricky Gill has been selected as Senior Director for South and Central Asian Affairs at the National Security Council. He will critically engage with India. Previously in the Trump administration, Gill had served in roles including that of NSC Director for Russia and European Energy Security, and as a State Department's Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations Senior Advisor.
Post-NSC, Gill served as the Principal and General Counsel of the Gill Capital Group and advised on European and Asian energy at TC Energy, the company behind the Keystone XL Pipeline. Born in Lodi, New Jersey, to parents Jasbir and Param Gill, he is a Princeton University graduate with a law degree from UC Berkeley. Gill confirmed his appointment via LinkedIn.
Born in Bengaluru, Saurabh Sharma will serve at the Presidential Personnel Office. Sharma is the Co-founder and president of American Moment, a conservative group in Washington dedicated to grooming new leadership. The activist for the Republican party is former state chairman for Young Conservatives of Texas and worked as a journalist at The Daily Caller.
Sharma is a biochemistry graduate from the University of Texas. His appointment was confirmed by American Moment on its website.
Appointments reported first by Politico are the first of significant contributions made by Indian Americans in the administration of President Donald Trump, a reflection of growing influence in policymaking in the United States.
