To Aid Policy Making Govt Plans News Jobs Data

BANGALORE: The country's chief statistician affirmed the government’s involvement in running an all-inclusive jobs data which would consist of annual and quarterly surveys to assist economic management, reports TOI.

The data is expected to stream when the administrative process is fixed, the progress is said to mark a new level in the country's economic indicator thereby bringing it closer to global practices.

T C A Anant, chief statistician said, "We are working on it. It is part of our 12th Plan proposal to do a more regular annual and quarterly survey on employment. That is in a process of administrative consultation and once the details have been worked out, we will be in a position to tell you how the timelines will work out and when the survey will be launched.”

A number of employment surveys have been provided while several agencies of the government are evaluating the labor market in the country. However India still requires a complete job data that is similar to U.S.’s key economic indicator.  Moreover the National Sample Survey Organization releases the employment state of affairs every five years. The Bureau of Public Enterprises releases data on public sector employment while a different agency publishes data on government employment.

Anant said, "These are already available and they will continue to be available. This will be a more comprehensive, regularly structured survey with a consistent methodological approach, which will give you a large part though not all of the information which NSS surveys would earlier give once every five years."Due to the fact that are prevailing in part of the economy which is in the informal sector, it makes it all the more complex to have an all inclusive jobs data,”

Anant said, "It is an extremely important indicator for economic management. The three critical elements for policy making are data on prices, data on value added and data on employment. These are three critical pillars on which central bank rely all over the world. For a long time we have been working with only two."
