The U.S. Contribution To Modi's Social Media Stardom

Bangalore: The United States may have not granted a visa to Narendra Modi, but that is not stopping him from topping the chart, as he has the second highest fan base on social networking media in the U.S.

The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi is already being called as the next Prime Minister candidate in India. According to a Czech-based organization Socialbakers, the stats show Modi’s 93.6 percent of fans on Facebook are from India and 4.5 percent are from other nations.

"Except for pages with fake fans, page fans generally have some linkages with the personality or brand. If you look at the country-specific split for Narendra Modi's page fans, you see that outside of India, his fans by and large come from countries with a fairly high number of non-resident Gujaratis,” said Aakash Srivastava, a social media strategist to TNN.

Narendra Modi is ranked number five on Facebook and at 13 on Twitter for his popularity. He has also overtaken many famous political leaders and has become a very strong contender for the PM among the masses.

Dr Dheeraj Sharma, a professor of marketing at Indian Institute of Management feels Modi’s popularity may be because he is able to connect with young people. He has created a situation and now people want to know him more and read his achievements. Sharma also stressed likes on a social networking site cannot be taken into account because not many voters cast their vote in the country.
