Tata Technologies and BMW Group Launch BMW TechWorks India

Tata Technologies and the BMW Group have announced their joint venture, BMW TechWorks India, which involves a 50:50 investment aimed at introducing advanced digital solutions in the automotive sector. This initiative focuses on software-defined vehicles, automated driving technologies, and digital infotainment, alongside a broad array of automotive digital services. This marks a significant advancement in automotive technology.
With contracts finalized and necessary regulatory approvals obtained, BMW TechWorks India is set to commence operations with an initial workforce of 100 employees situated in major tech hubs including Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai. The venture aims to expand its team to over a thousand employees by the end of 2025, emphasizing the recruitment of top engineering talent from across India to leverage local expertise.
BMW TechWorks India will play a crucial role in enhancing the digital transformation of BMW Group’s global production network. The partnership aims to improve digital customer experiences and optimize sales processes. Additionally, the venture will focus on developing AI applications that enhance core business functions, ensuring optimal performance across the organization.
Warren Harris, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Technologies, expressed confidence in the joint venture's potential, stating, “This collaboration can position India at the forefront of industry-changing opportunities. The automotive landscape is rapidly evolving, with a growing need for advanced engineering skills and digital expertise. This venture will enable us to create impactful software and digital solutions”.
BMW has opened its fourth-largest development center in India, BMW TechWorks India, which is dedicated to the next generation of software-defined vehicles. Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of Electronics and Software at BMW Group, noted that “BMW TechWorks India is a vital component of our global vehicle software initiatives. The talent pool in India will be instrumental in developing BMW Group's future software-defined vehicles”.
Aditya Khera, CEO of BMW TechWorks India, emphasized the significance of the new software hub for BMW Group's automotive software and business IT strategies. He stated, “This software hub will be essential in shaping our approach to automotive software and business IT”. BMW TechWorks India is well-positioned to lead innovations in the automotive sector, contributing significantly to the development of software solutions that will shape the future of mobility.
