Tata Sons Chairman Skips TCS AGM Amid Grief Over Air India Crash
  • Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran skipped the TCS AGM due to exigencies, following his absence from the Tata Consumer Products AGM.
  • His absence is linked to the Air India crash that killed at least 270 people, prompting his focus on crisis management.
  • Independent director Keki Mistry chaired the meeting, with the board observing a minute’s silence for the victims.
Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran missed the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services firm, citing 'some exigencies'. This marks his second consecutive absence from a key shareholder event, following his non-attendance at the Tata Consumer Products AGM on Wednesday.
TCS Company Secretary Yashaswin Sheth informed shareholders that Mr. Chandrasekaran would not be able to attend the AGM. While no official reason was disclosed, his absence is widely attributed to the ongoing crisis stemming from the tragic crash of Air India’s Ahmedabad–London Gatwick flight last week, a Tata Group airline. The devastating accident claimed the lives of at least 270 people, including 241 passengers and crew members.
Chandrasekaran, who took over as Chairman of Tata Sons in 2017 after an eight-year tenure as CEO of TCS, has been deeply involved in overseeing the group’s response to the tragedy.
In his absence, independent director and finance industry veteran Keki Mistry presided over the AGM. “This is a very difficult time for us at the Tata Group. We are all deeply saddened. This is an unimaginable tragedy that has resulted in so many lives lost. Words can be of no consolation right now”, said Mr. Mistry.
He added that the Tata Group stands in solidarity with the affected families during this painful period.
The TCS board began the meeting by observing a minute’s silence in tribute to the victims, reflecting the somber mood overshadowing the group’s business proceedings.
