T Koshy Steps Down as ONDC CEO, Leadership Change in Progress
Thampy Koshy, Managing Director and CEO of the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), has resigned from his position after heading the organization for almost three years. His last working day will be June 30. In the meantime, a 10-member board will run operations, with no plans to appoint a successor in the near future, sources informed Mint.
Affirming the transition, ONDC said, "Koshy has communicated his intent to relinquish while assisting with the transition. The MD & CEO functions have been transferred to an executive committee, and Koshy is available to the board for the next three months in an advisory capacity".
ONDC, under Koshy's helm, achieved historic milestones, exceeding 200 million transactions and scaling up its presence across major segments like food, grocery, and financial services. "As is the case with any dynamic and changing organisation, a leadership transition is in process now", said the network in its release.
The resignation follows other high-level departures. Last month, Shireesh Joshi, Chief Business Officer, had resigned due to personal reasons. Earlier, in December, R S Sharma, erstwhile UIDAI mission director, had resigned as non-executive chairperson after a brief stint.
These leadership changes come at a critical juncture for ONDC, which is trying to solidify its place in the Indian digital commerce space without overstretching into too many areas.
Prior to joining ONDC, Koshy was Executive Director at NSDL for more than 14 years and subsequently Partner at EY for over a decade. His exit is a major change in leadership as ONDC continues its efforts to democratize e-commerce in India.
