Swiggy Joins Hands with IRCTC for In-Train Food Delivery Across India
Swiggy, the popular online food delivery platform, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to introduce food delivery services on Indian Railways. The collaboration will initially cover train journeys through Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayawada, with plans to expand to 59 more city stations across the country in the upcoming weeks.
Passengers can avail themselves of this service by inputting their Passenger Name Record (PNR) on the IRCTC app, selecting the desired station for food delivery, and browsing through a variety of restaurants on the Swiggy app. After choosing a restaurant that delivers at the specified location and time, the pre-ordered food will be delivered in insulated Swiggy bags to keep the meals warm and fresh.
Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Food Marketplace at Swiggy, emphasized that this partnership aims to enhance the train travel experience by offering passengers the opportunity to explore the culinary diversity of India during their journeys across states and districts.
Sanjay Kumar Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of IRCTC, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating that it would provide passengers with more convenience and food options, thereby making their train journeys more memorable.
To ensure timely delivery, Swiggy's delivery partners will arrive at the selected platform a few minutes before the scheduled delivery time, hand over the food to the customer, and mark the order as delivered. This innovative partnership is expected to transform the way passengers experience food services during train travel in India.
