Strong Strategic Cooperation Between India and the US

The action reflects the degree of mutual trust that has developed between India and the United States in the post-cold war era. The strategic relationship between New Delhi and Washington has expanded quickly over time.

The US Navy Ship Charles Drew's arrival on August 7 at Chennai's Kattupalli Shipyard to undergo repairs and related services marks a new high for the Indo-US strategic alliance. According to observers, the move demonstrates the level of mutual trust that has grown between India and the United States in the post-cold war environment. Over the years, the New Delhi-Washington strategic alliance has grown rapidly.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin declared their intention to investigate using Indian shipyards for the repairs and upkeep of US Maritime Sealift Command ships while they are in mid-tour at the US-India 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue in April. Following a thorough study of a few Indian shipyards, the US Command chose the Kattupalli Shipyard to receive a contract. India now produces ships for purposes other than its own. The nation has a design studio that can produce a variety of cutting-edge ships. Vietnam received 12 high-speed guard boats from Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in June of this year.

The first major marine diesel engine is projected to be designed and produced in India within the next two to three years. The "make-one" approach will be used to build the diesel marine engine. The government contributes 70 percent  of the project cost for the design and development of the engine under this programme. Since former Prime Minister P V Narsimha Rao implemented economic reforms in the nation, Indo-US defence ties have been improving. India is now acknowledged by the US as "a major defence partner." India is treated on a par with NATO members. India now has access to military technologies that were previously only available to the US closest allies. This has had a pretty impressive outcome. The defence trade between India and the US reached USD 20 billion in 2021. Several significant agreements between India and the United States have been signed in recent years, including the Industrial Security Agreement, the Communications, Compatibility, and Security Agreement, and the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) (ISA).
