Steve Waugh Appointed to Centre for Australia-India Relations Advisory Board
Australian cricket great Steve Waugh has been appointed to the Centre for Australia-India Relations Advisory Board, Foreign Affairs Minister Senator the Hon Penny Wong announced in an official statement.
The Centre for Australia-India Relations is responsible for enhancing the relationship between the two countries through interaction at all levels of government, industry, academia, and community. The Centre seeks to increase mutual understanding and foster business and cultural alliances that promote long-term cooperation between India and Australia.
The Advisory Board assists in providing strategic guidance to the Centre with a focus on business, the arts, education, health, science, technology, and sport initiatives.
Waugh, who is one of Australia's most renowned cricket captains, has long been acknowledged for his efforts to enhance people-to-people links with India. Aside from his achievements in cricket, Waugh has been consistently engaged in charity work, including his endorsement of humanitarian programs such as the Udayan children's home in Kolkata.
"Steve Waugh's strong bond with India and his enthusiasm for building relations between our countries make him an asset to the Advisory Board", said Minister Wong.
