Semicon India 2024: Uttar Pradesh Set to Host Major Semiconductor Event
In a significant move to position Uttar Pradesh as a leading player in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is preparing to host Semicon India 2024 at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida from September 11 to 13. The event is set to draw global attention and highlights India's growing role in the global semiconductor supply chain.
Organized in collaboration with SEMI, Messe Muenchen India, and the Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA), the event aims to boost India’s semiconductor sector and establish the country as a major global competitor in chip manufacturing. As India’s semiconductor market continues to grow, with projections estimating it could exceed $55 billion by 2026, the event is expected to play a key role in attracting investments and fostering technological advancements in this critical industry.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event on September 11, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also in attendance. This high-level participation demonstrates the government’s commitment to advancing the semiconductor industry, positioning it as a vital component of India’s future economic growth and technological leadership.
Uttar Pradesh, already a hub for electronics manufacturing, is actively seeking investments from global semiconductor companies to strengthen its role in the industry. The state is looking to build on its existing momentum by attracting semiconductor firms and encouraging partnerships that will drive domestic chip production. With over 200 electronics companies already operating in Uttar Pradesh, the government is now focusing on expanding its footprint in the fabless semiconductor sector. The state’s extensive rail network and growing airport infrastructure, including the upcoming Noida International Airport, further enhance its appeal as a destination for high-tech industries.
To incentivize investment, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced the UP Semiconductor Policy, which offers a range of benefits, including a 50% capital subsidy, a 75% rebate on land costs, a 100% exemption from electricity duty for ten years, and a 5% interest subsidy on loans of up to Rs 7 crore. These incentives are designed to position Uttar Pradesh as a global semiconductor hub and attract major players from around the world. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called on investors to explore the state’s potential, emphasizing its goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by leveraging its strengths in electronics and semiconductor manufacturing.
Running from September 11 to 13, Semicon India 2024 will feature a comprehensive exhibition showcasing the latest advancements in semiconductor technology. Manufacturers from across the globe will present their innovations, providing attendees with insights into the future of the semiconductor industry. The exhibition will serve as a platform for companies to display their cutting-edge solutions and foster collaboration within the global semiconductor community.
On the second day, the event will delve into crucial topics such as cross-regional partnerships, flexible hybrid electronics, supply chain management, and sustainable industry practices. These discussions are intended to address the key challenges and opportunities in the semiconductor industry, particularly in light of global supply chain disruptions and the rising demand for sustainable solutions.
The final day, September 13, will offer participants the opportunity to attend a presentation by Micron on package manufacturing, a semiconductor fabrication boot camp hosted by the Indian Semiconductor Association (ISA), and an overview of the semiconductor industry's progress by the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA). These sessions will provide valuable insights into the latest trends and developments in the industry, offering participants practical knowledge on navigating this fast-evolving sector.
This year’s Semicon India 2024 will take place alongside Electronica India and Productronica India, two of Southeast Asia’s largest electronics fairs. This unique combination of events is expected to unite a wide range of domestic and international companies, offering participants the chance to explore India’s burgeoning semiconductor sector and discover new business opportunities.
The event also aligns with the India Semiconductor Mission, a national initiative aimed at bolstering domestic chip production, supported by major firms like AMD, Applied Materials, and Micron Technology.
