SEMI and IESA Partner to Strengthen India's Role in Global Semiconductor Value Chain
In a strategic move to enhance India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain, industry association SEMI has entered into a partnership with the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA). Announced during the ‘Semicon India 2024’ event, the collaboration aims to leverage both organizations’ strengths to foster growth in India's burgeoning semiconductor industry.
Under this agreement, IESA will become part of the global SEMI network, while retaining its brand identity. It will also implement SEMI’s processes and key initiatives in India, facilitating the country’s integration into the global semiconductor ecosystem.
“India holds immense potential in the semiconductor space, and many global companies are already exploring opportunities here”, said Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI. He emphasized that the partnership would help SEMI build a strong presence in India, identifying strategies to boost supply chain resilience and capitalizing on India’s growing semiconductor market.
IESA Chairperson Dr. Veerappan and President Ashok Chandak hailed the agreement as a significant step for India. “This milestone positions India to become a global semiconductor powerhouse, accelerates economic growth, and fosters innovation”, they stated.
The partnership will also focus on joint policy advocacy, with SEMI and IESA working together to engage with central and state governments. The collaboration aims to promote incentives for product development and manufacturing under key programs such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) and Design-Linked Incentive (DLI) schemes.
The ongoing 'Semicon India 2024' event, hosted in partnership with Messe Munchen India, MeitY, the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), and Digital India, has attracted over 600 exhibitors and more than 100 global companies, highlighting India’s growing stature in the semiconductor industry.
