SEBI Chairperson Launches the Investor Risk Reduction Access Platform
Madhabi Puri Buch, the Chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), has launched the Investor Risk Reduction Access (IRRA) platform at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). Mitigating risks in financial markets is an ongoing concern, and regulators are constantly making efforts to address various types of risks.
The IRRA platform is an initiative conceived and executed by Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs) under the guidance of SEBI. The platform aims to minimize the risks faced by investors in case of technical glitches on the Trading Member's side, both at the Primary site and the Disaster Recovery site.
MIIs soft-launched the IRRA platform with effect from October 2023 and officially launched the IRRA platform for the benefit of investors at large. The platform is available to trading members supporting Internet-based trading and Security Trading through Wireless Technology for their investors.
IRRA however would not be available for algo trading and Institutional clients. IRRA can be invoked by Trading Members when they are faced with a technical glitch at their end impacting their ability to service clients across exchanges from both the primary site and Disaster Recovery site, where relevant.
After performing basic checks, the platform downloads trades made by the Trading Member from all trading venues. The platform then uses internet trading or wireless technology to send SMS/email notifications to investors, containing a link to access IRRA. By using the provided link, investors can easily review the status of their investment, orders, and other relevant information, as well as place orders for squaring off or closing positions.
