Honorable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi addresses the conclave under the National Education Policy 2020 on 'School Education in 21st Century' via video conferencing. The NEP 2020 is the first education policy of the 21st century that has been announced after 34 years, NEP 1986. The education ministry had organized this two-day conclave scheduled for September 10 and 11 as a part of the 'Shiksha Parv'.
The Shiksha Parv is being celebrated from September 8-25. Numerous webinars and conferences are being conducted to discuss the action plan of the NEP 2020. On August 7, PM Modi had delivered the inaugural address at the conclave on 'Transformational Reforms in Higher Education' under NEP-2020.
Under NEP 2020 new curriculum has been framed. This is expected to ease the school syllabus and make learning a fun-filled process. Thus, PM Modi has assured that our students would get their new curriculum by 2022.
PM Modi assures various new transformation in the new curriculum such as the mark sheets are becoming pressure sheets for students and families consider it their prestige, NEP 2020 intends to eliminate it. Further, the teachers have to focus on developing creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication abilities among themselves as these qualities are a must for students in the 21st century.
In his speech during the conclave, PM Modi has also insisted to take up the learning as a journey of 'learn-to-read' to 'read-to -learn' as the country is moving towards strengthening its literacy foundation. Thus, it aims to achieve this by enabling a class-III students to read about 30-40 words in a minute. Most importantly, the classrooms should not be restricted without four walls.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also pointed out that pre-school is the first schooling experience for every child. Thus, the teachers have to make learning a fun experience right from the pre-school by introducing activity-based learning and discovering-based learning.
Furthermore, the NEP 2020 has highlighted the importance of developing scientific and mathematical thinking among students. Therefore, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is a process of continuous hard work of various stakeholder's efforts for more than four to five years. Yet, the work is still in progress and it has a long way to go. The road ahead is to ensure its effective implementation says, PM Modi.
