SC Gives Sanjay Dutt Four More Weeks to Surrender

New Delhi: The Supreme Court gave Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt four more weeks to surrender following his conviction under the Arms Act in the 1993 Mumbai bombings case.

The actor had asked the court for six months to complete his films. The apex court had pronounced its order March 21. While upholding Dutt's conviction under the Arms Act for possessing illegal arms, the court reduced his sentence from six to five years.

Sanjay has already completed one-and-half years in jail and has to serve the remainder three-and-half years.

The court had also sentenced 20 to life imprisonment and 46 others, including Sanjay Dutt, were given varying terms of imprisonment.

Amid a growing clamour for his clemency, the 53-year-old Bollywood actor had said, "All I can tell you is I have not applied for pardon."

Dutt had said "There are many other people who deserve pardon. I want to tell with folded hands to the media, the honourable citizens of the country that when I am not going for pardon then there can be no debate about it."
