FREMONT, CA: 32-year-old Indian-American businessman Sam Joshi, born and brought up in New Jersey, was sworn in to lead it. With this election, Joshi made history as the first Indian-American and youngest elected Mayor of Edison, New Jersey. Two hundred people attended his swearing-in ceremony as Mayor of Edison, N.J.

The Sworn-in Ceremony

The ceremony was performed at John P. Stevens High School.  This institution played a part in shaping the dreams and bolstering Joshi's leadership qualities at a young age. During the ceremony, the former principal of John P. Stevens High School, Gali Pawlikowski, said that Joshi displayed his charisma, people skills, and leadership qualities during his years in the high school. The principal also added that Joshi's leadership skills served him well in his classes and extracurricular activities, and he was destined to join the government. Joshi, during the ceremony, said that Edison is home to a variety of cultures, ethnicity, religion, and economic statuses and has a multitude of different priorities to navigate. He also adds that in the next few weeks, his team will announce the timelines for the goals that he has formulated as part of his campaign. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi in his speech, Joshi said that he wishes Edison to be a catalyst of unity and good governance.

Early Years

Joshi's parents came to the U.S. thirty-four years ago, settled in Edison, and opened a small convenience store. He attended John. P. Stevens High School and graduated from Rutgers University in Labor Studies and Political Science. He joined the local government at the age of fourteen when he joined the Edison Youth Service Corp and helped the community in their day-to-day lives. To help students deal with refinancing student loans, Joshi co-founded Loanscribe. He has also worked as the Division Manager and then EVP of S.D. Capital Funding for almost a decade. Joshi is also a prominent member of the Board of Directors of The Jewish Renaissance Foundation.
