Bangalore: A survey done by National Sample Survey Office ( NSSO) revealed that household consumer expenditure for the year 2009-10 has increased and the major contribution comes from rural India. The survey revealed that rural Indian's are spending more on consumer goods like durables, beverages and services than it used to spend five years ago.
The data highlights the fact that there is a rapid increase in the income of the rural sector as well as there is an improvement in the living standards of the rural Indian's.
The survey results depicted in the Economic Times revealed that the monthly per capita expenditure in the rural sector was Rs 953.05 in the year 2009-10, an increase of 64.6% from 2004-05. The increase in per capita expenditure is higher than the 57.64% rise in consumer prices, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI-AL) during the five-year reference period.
It is also speculated that the advertisements and the commercials on the television and the other media are the prime cause of motivating the rural mass of India to indulge and spend more on consumer goods.
