Bangalore: When we talk about a country’s development it is not only about the metros and popular cities, but the rural parts are equally important in the empowerment of a nation. Our country is the second most populous with over 1.271 billion people. Social media is the fastest medium of communication. And it is easily accessible in mobile phones and is user friendly too. The urban people had a social media revolution with Orkut, Twitter and Facebook eventually ending up with WhatsApp.
Media and technology are growing day by day and spreading wings all over the globe. Thus everyone is trying to catch up the social media culture which results into the hike in the number of android phones sold in the country. The urban India consists of less population when it is compared to rural India. The government is in a mission to develop the rural parts.
According to the Social Media in India 2014 report, by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and IMRB International, there are 143 million social media users in India as on April 2015. Usage of social media in rural India has grown by an impressive 100 per cent during the last one year, with 25 million users in rural India. On the other hand, urban India registered a relatively lower growth of 35 per cent, with the total number of users at 118 million as on April 2015 reports rediff.com
Thus it is evident that when the urban population is busy with their life style, rural Indians are taking most from its limited resources. With the availability of electricity and internet to almost all the villages is helping villagers connect with the world and empower themselves.
The report gives a positive aspect to the development of the rural India where facilities are comparatively less. The social media communities of rural India are coming up with various development programmes as well.
