Rani Rampal The Young Sensation In Hockey From India
BANGALORE: Rani Rampal, the young girl from Haryana has been adding some beautiful pages to the history of Indian hockey. 15 year old Rani was the youngest player to play from the country to represent the national team for the World Cup-2010. She is said to be the coolest girl who never ever give up her spirit. As the Women’s team booked the birth for Rio Olympics, here is all what you want to know about India’s goal machine as reported by Indiatimes.
The 20 year old forward has struggled her way to the top. Hailing from a poor family her parent’s could not afford to get her shoes and hockey sticks yet they let her live her dream in every possible way. She took to field hockey in 2003 and was trained at the Shahbad Hockey Academy under Dronacharya Award winner Baldev Singh. As she started to play professionally Go Sports foundation came up to sponsor the young talent.
In 2009 Rani played in the champion’s challenge tournament and emerged as the youngest achiever of the tournament having scored 4 goals in the final and India eventually won the championship crown. Following this success she played a key role in the team wherein the country to win silver medal at the Asia cup. Her tremendous performances in 2010 Commonwealth Games and Asia cup earned her a spot in the FIH hockey world league women’s all star team in 2010.
At the 2010 Women’s Hockey World Cup held in Rosario, Argentina, she scored a total of seven goals placing India in the ninth position in World Women's hockey rankings. This is India's best performance since 1978. She was also named as the best player of the tournament. She is the only Indian to be nominated for the FIH Women's Young Player of the Year Award, 2010. She was also named as the player of the tournament in 2013 Junior World Cup India won bronze.
The government has employed her in order to help the family. In spite of the additional prize money she receives after each victory, Rani still lacks that credible financial support and facilities which causes became a hurdle for her dream run for gold in Rio.
