Punjab Plugs Power Gaps to Strengthen Textile Industry, says Sanjeev Arora

The Punjab government is working on an extensive action plan to end unscheduled power outages, especially those resulting from transmission line issues that negatively impact consumers. This was revealed by Sanjeev Arora, Minister for Industries and Commerce, Information Technology, Investment Promotion, and Power in the state, while on a visit to Vardhman Textile Limited.

The visit was a part of his interaction with the members of the Textile and Weaving Committee, which was newly formed by the state government to give suggestions regarding the development and growth of the textile and weaving industry in Punjab. Accompanied by S. P. Oswal, Chairman and Managing Director, Vardhman Group, the minister interacted with a number of members of the committee such as Abhishek Gupta of Trident Group, Amit Thapar of Ganga Acrowools, Amit Jain of Shingora Textiles, Sambhav Oswal of Nahar Spinning Mills, Priyanka Goyal on behalf of the Associated Industrial Association, Amritsar, and others.

Oswal thanked the minister for constituting the committee, describing it as important in terms of finding solutions for the burning problems of the textile industry. He further gave an account of the past development and present position of the textile industry in Punjab, from its pre-Independence days to its current position of dominance. In the course of the interaction, the members of the committee had revealed the setbacks facing the state's textile industry in great detail.

Some of the main issues that were highlighted were renewable energy-related challenges like excessive banking requirements and the necessity for more consumer-oriented open access policies. All these issues were discussed with the minister at length, and he had promised the members of the government's willingness to establish an industry-friendly ecosystem. Extended Dussehra wishes to the gathering, Arora also briefed about what the Punjab government is doing to improve the investment environment in the state. He highlighted the emphasis being placed on accelerating approvals for projects through a hassle-free single-window clearance system.

As per the minister, new projects in notified Focal Point areas would be approved within five working days, whereas projects not located in these areas would be cleared within 15 working days. Expansion proposals are to be dealt with within 18 days, and those in the red or orange zones would be cleared between 45 and 60 days, reflecting the government's interest in bringing about industrial growth in Punjab.
