The NASA and ISRO joint project, NISAR, will help the world better understand natural resources and hazards and offer information for scientists to comprehend the effects and pace of climate change

While speaking at the India-US Tech Conclave at the Bengaluru Tech Summit, the US government official US Consul General in Chennai, Judith Ravin, stated that India and the US are collaborative partners in a wide range of fields like information technology, artificial intelligence, space, and climate change mitigation.

The US is India’s largest trading partner, with 160 billion USD in bilateral trade the previous year. Regarding foreign direct investment, the US is India’s largest investor, with a wide range of companies injecting billions of dollars into the Indian economy, including various big technology firms. Ravin added that there are more than 650 US companies in Bengaluru.

Highlighting the recent measures to advance the bilateral relationship, she mentioned the India visit of NASA's Associate Administrator, Dr. Thomas Zurbuchen, where he met ISRO officials and discussed the ongoing NASA-ISRO joint mission called NISAR.

The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar, or NISAR, is one of NASA's most significant bilateral projects at 1.5 billion USD. This aims to help the world understand natural resources and hazards and provide information for scientists to better comprehend the effects and pace of climate change. NASA and ISRO continue to examine new avenues for collaboration in the science and technology fields.

Concerning research projects, Dr. Sethuraman Panchanathan, Director of the US National Science Foundation, visited India, including Bengaluru, to promote joint US-India research projects involving principal investigators from both countries for collaborative research accelerating the development of new technologies, tools, and mutual societal and economic benefit systems.

Furthermore, Dr. Panchanathan announced the selection of US supplemental funding awards totaling 2.8 million USD for research projects focusing on areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, and edge computing. Ravin noted that the upcoming US-India Commercial Dialogue, the US-India CEO Forum would introduce more growth opportunities and create jobs in both nations.
