PM Modi's Address to NDA Parliamentary Party Scheduled for Today

·  PM Modi to address NDA MPs in first meet of Monsoon Session today.

·  Operation Sindoor success and national security to feature in his speech.

·  Meeting comes ahead of VP poll nominations and amid opposition protests.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party meeting today, the first such meeting during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Held in the Parliament complex, the top-level meeting will see attendance by all Members of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies. Attendance has been made compulsory for all NDA MPs.

This gathering is politically important, coming a mere two days before the nomination process for the vice-presidential election, the process of which starts on August 7. Although the NDA has a clear majority in the electoral college and the outcome of the election thus largely predetermined, the alliance is likely to name its official choice by August 21, the deadline for filing nominations as well as the last day of the ongoing session.

In the meeting, PM Modi will be felicitated for the successful conduct of Operation Sindoor, a large counter-terror operation initiated in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. His speech is likely to dwell on the effect of the operation, national security issues, and important political developments that are defining the parliamentary agenda at present.

The Monsoon Session has otherwise been by way of disruptions, the opposition continuing to stage protests most notably against the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Opposition leaders allege the revision is politically motivated in favor of the ruling party.

During his address, the Prime Minister will also counter such charges, reaffirm the government's promise of a clean election process, and present the NDA's legislative agenda for the last few days of the session.
