PM Modi to Launch 2,000 Railway Projects Worth Rs 41,000 Crore
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay the cornerstone, inaugurate, and dedicate approximately 2,000 railway infrastructure projects valued at over Rs 41,000 crore to the nation. The ceremony will take place through video conferencing. In a post on X, PM Modi said, "Today is a historic day for our Railways! At 12:30 PM, 2000 railway infrastructure projects worth over Rs 41,000 crores will be dedicated to the nation.
"In order to enhance the travel experience, 553 stations will be redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The foundation stones for these stations would be laid. Overbridges and underpasses across India will also be inaugurated. These works will further ‘Ease of Living’ for the people", PM Modi said.
In a major step to provide world-class amenities at railway stations, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 553 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. These stations, spread across 27 states and Union Territories, will be redeveloped at a cost of over Rs 19,000 crore. These stations will act as ‘City Centres’ integrating both sides of the city. They will have modern passenger amenities like a roof plaza, beautiful landscaping, intermodal connectivity an improved modern façade, kids play area, kiosks, food courts, etc.
These stations will undergo redevelopment to be both environmentally and accessible-friendly, with designs inspired by local culture, heritage, and architecture. Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Gomti Nagar station in Uttar Pradesh, which has been renovated at a cost of approximately Rs 385 crore. To accommodate anticipated growth in passenger traffic, the station now features separate arrival and departure facilities and serves as an integrated hub for both sides of the city. This centrally air-conditioned station offers modern amenities such as an Air Concourse, congestion-free pathways, food courts, and extensive parking across upper and lower basement levels.
The Prime Minister will also lay the cornerstone, inaugurate, and dedicate 1500 Road Over Bridges and Underpasses to the nation. These projects span across 24 states and Union Territories, with a total cost of approximately Rs 21,520 crore. They are aimed at alleviating congestion, boosting safety and connectivity, enhancing rail travel capacity and efficiency.
