PM Modi to Celebrate Abhidhamma Divas and Recognize Pali as Classical Language

The Prime Minister is expected to attend the celebration of International Abhidhamma Divas and recognition of Pali as a classical language today.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, will attend the function on International Abhidhamma Divas and conferring classical language status on Pali, Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. He will also address as a speaker during the function.

Abhidhamma Divas is celebrated to mark the return of Lord Buddha from heaven, after he had gone there with the intention of gifting the knowledge of Abhidhamma to humanity. The declaration of Pali as a classical language parallel with four others makes this year's Abhidhamma Divas celebrations all the more momentous because, originally, the discourses of Lord Buddha on Abhidhamma exist only in the Pali language.

For the International Abhidhamma Divas, an event being organized by the Government of India and International Buddhist Confederation, the academicians and monks from 14 countries will take part, besides numerous youth experts on Buddha Dhamma belonging to different Universities of India.
