PM Modi To Attend G20 Summit In Brazilian City Of Rio De Janeiro Today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend today's meeting in the Brazilian city of Rio De Janeiro. Additionally, he would be holding one-to-one meetings with global leaders on the sidelines of the summit.
Some of the leaders who are reportedly attending the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro today and tomorrow would include Mr Modi, US President Joe Biden, and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Brazil today. The visit forms part of his 3-nation tour. India, Brazil, and South Africa form the G20 Troika and have been active participants in the deliberations at the ongoing G20 Summit.
These commitments are to be delivered on during the event by articulating India's perspectives on several pressing global issues and building forward on the G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration and summits for the Voice of the Global South hosted by India in the last few years.
The theme for the G20 Summit this year would be 'Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet' wherein Brazil would keep center stage the issues relating to social inclusion, poverty, sustainable development, and reform of global governance institutions.
This summit is significant as it would continue from the agenda set by India last year. Last year, India had done a clean sweep by hosting the G20 Summit at New Delhi in September, scoring a major diplomatic victory by convincing global leaders on a common ground to include the Russia-Ukraine war in the New Delhi Declaration.
A huge milestone for India as Chair: she brought the African Union into the G20 bloc, which marked a major push to voice the priorities of the Global South on a global stage.
