In a meeting held on the margins of the G-20 summit in Bali, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden reviewed the state of the India-US strategic partnership

On 15^th November, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden reviewed the state of the India-US strategic partnership, including in sectors like critical and emerging technologies and artificial intelligence. Modi also met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in another meeting.

Modi and Biden have also discussed the current geopolitical tensions and their implications in their meeting that was held on the margins of the G-20 summit in Bali. During the meeting, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated in its readout that the two leaders discussed current global and regional developments.

Furthermore, they reviewed the continuing deepening of India-US strategic ties, including cooperation in future-oriented sectors like critical and emerging technologies. Advanced computing, artificial intelligence, etc. The MEA mentioned that Prime Minister Modi appreciated Biden's constant support for strengthening the India-US partnership. It also stated that Modi expressed confidence that both countries would continue to maintain close coordination during India’s G-20 Presidency.

In separate meetings with the Indonesian and American leaders, the MEA highlighted that Modi affirmed that India would give voice to other developing nations during its presidency. The rotating presidency moves to Delhi after the Bali Summit.

MEA also noted that Modi emphasized the G20's role in helping vulnerable countries, assisting inclusive development, strengthening economic security and global supply chains, developing innovative financing models for multilateral institutions, and providing solutions to climate change challenges, pandemics, and poverty.

A White House readout reiterated that Biden met Modi and Indonesian President Joko Widodo on the margins of the G20 summit in Bali to reaffirm their shared commitment to the G20 as the premier forum for international economic cooperation.

Facing critical global challenges, the leaders discussed how the G20 continues to demonstrate its collective capacity to bring together major economies to improve sustainable and inclusive growth in economies and beyond, address the ongoing climate, energy, and food crises, strengthen the global health architecture, and promote technological transformation. MEA also highlighted that Biden applauded Indonesia’s G20 Presidency and looked forward to continuing to support the G20’s work under India’s Presidency.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the close cooperation between India and the US in new groupings such as Quad and I2U2. Modi and Biden held the conversation following external affairs minister S Jaishankar met US state secretary Antony Blinken on the sidelines of the ASEAN-India Summit in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh. Jaishankar and Blinken discussed various issues, including bilateral ties, geopolitical conflicts, and the situation in the Indo-Pacific, among others.
