PharmEasy Report Reveals Dengue Hotspots: Bihar Shows Higher Positivity rate, Maharashtra Records Lower positivity Rates

PharmEasy Report Reveals Dengue Hotspots

PharmEasy has published a new report, “Dengue: The Silent Threat of the Monsoon Season”, based on an analysis of over 1.2 lakh diagnostic tests conducted across India between April 2022 and December 2024. The report also includes crucial information about dengue and its complications to promote community-level awareness.

According to the findings, dengue positivity rates vary widely by region. Bihar (17.51%), Haryana (15.43%), and Chandigarh (15.09%) saw the highest numbers, while Maharashtra (5.51%) and Karnataka (6.26%) reported comparatively lower rates, showing how early public health interventions can make a difference.

The report indicates that booking for dengue tests also started earlier, with people seeking diagnoses in May this year, rather than June, as seen in previous seasons.

The data reveal that young people aged 11–30 are the most likely to test positive for dengue. Men under 50 recorded higher positivity rates, while women above 50 were more prone to severe complications.

Most infections occurred between August and October, when warm temperatures above 27°C and humidity levels of 60–78% created favourable breeding conditions for Aedes mosquitoes. During this period, dengue-related Google searches also spiked, reflecting growing public concern.

PharmEasy has urged stronger interventions in high-incidence states and greater protection for vulnerable groups. Preventive steps such as eliminating stagnant water, using mosquito repellents, wearing protective clothing, and installing nets or screens are strongly recommended.
