Organ Trafficking on Rise Worldwide
Bangalore: Organ trafficking is on a high rise worldwide, mostly found in the deprived, underprivileged and poor people. The International Black Market brokers provoke brutally these unfortunates especially from the underdeveloped countries to sell organs to them. Then they sell these in a much high rate to the prosperous and well heeled rich people around the world. This illegal crime is on high rise in Egypt, stated a report from Coalition for Organ Failure Solutions (COFS).
It’s not that always peoples are victimized always by threatening them or buying organs from them. In Egypt, one method of organ trafficking revolved around a hiring scheme. Young men were hired for a job and sent to a physician for an exam to ensure their good health. The young men would awaken in a hospital in pain and a missing kidney. Victims of this scheme have faced threats of violence when they have filed charges against those who perpetrated the crime.
The COFS report says that these brokers are mostly targeting the Sudanese refugees and other asylum seekers in the nation. The report clearly states that they compel the underprivileged. The report is based on 57 case studies of Sudanese refugees, including peoples of various age and sex, who are victims of organ trafficking.
This crime is vastly spreading as the numbers of demanders are more than willful donors. These organs smugglers easily inflame a poor’s need and necessity by cheating them, and fulfilling the expensive demand of the rich and wealthy people. Each year, around 5,000 people sell organs in the black market, states Dr. Francis Delmonico, the advisor on organ transplant of the World Health Organization (WHO). It is illegal to buy or sell an organ worldwide except Iran.
