Nikki Haley To Be The Second US Prez Candidate

Nikki Haley, who was the first Indian American to be a member of a United States cabinet and the governor of North Carolina State, speaks at a meeting of the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas, Nevada.

What is the possibility of two women from opposing political parties running for the US presidential nomination?

The possibility may seem far-fetched, but Nikki Haley, daughter of a turban-wearing Sikh immigrant from India, has hinted that she might run for the Republican nomination. However, it also depends on whether or not President Joe Biden decides not to contest for re-election, which would allow Vice President Kamala Harris to run for the Democratic Party nomination. As of now, Biden has stated that he intends to run for reelection and will discuss his options with his family early the next year.

Haley, who is the first person of Indian-American ancestry to hold a position in the US cabinet, stated on Sunday that she will consider a presidential run "seriously" and "will have more say shortly." With a hint of confidence, she reminiscence how she has won tough primaries and general elections. She also finds it amusing when people underestimate her, which fuels her to prepare for the journey ahead.

Haley served as the 87th District's representative in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2005 to 2010 before becoming governor. Haley was chosen to lead the rookie caucus in 2005, and she was chosen to serve as majority whip in the South Carolina General Assembly in 2006. Sarah Palin and other members of the Tea Party movement supported Haley's 2010 campaign for governor of South Carolina. She created history in 2011 when she became the first woman and member of a minority group to hold the governorship. South Carolina's economy grew steadily during her first term as the unemployment rate decreased. 2014 saw Haley handily re-elected.

She spoke at the first significant Republican political event following the announcement of former President Donald Trump's candidacy at a Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) gathering in Las Vegas, Nevada. Trump spoke at the meeting along with other potential rivals like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Haley began establishing her base within the party after leaving her cabinet position as the Permanent Representative to the UN after only two years on the job. She established the political action committee Stand for America, which spent USD 10 million endorsing 60 candidates in the midterm elections. Haley was the second person of Indian descent to serve as governor of South Carolina after fellow Republican Bobby Jindal before joining Trump's cabinet.
