New Jerseys First South Asian woman municipal judge Dipti Vaid Dedhia
The township has a new municipal court judge, and Dipti Dedhia became the first South Asian woman to hold the position in New Jersey.
FREMONT CA: Dipti Vaid Dedhia, an Indian American, has been confirmed as the first female South Asian municipal court judge in Edison and New Jersey history by the Edison Township Council. Dedhia's selection broke a glass ceiling that everyone should be proud of, said Sam Joshi, Edison's first South Asian mayor, who nominated her. She is the most competent and prepared for the position.
It was a true honor and privilege to recommend Dipti Vaid Dedhia for the municipal court judge position in Edison. Joshi said the Council members unanimously supported this nomination following the confirmation vote. Dedhia matriculated from George Washington University and received her Juris Doctor from the Seton Hall University of Law. She was previously the Deputy Attorney General for Employment Counsel and Labor for the State of New Jersey.
According to an official statement, she has spent decades litigating complex employment concerns, examining allegations alleging violations of law or policy, and defending the governor's Employee Relations office in grievance arbitration between the administration and labor unions.
Dedhia stated that her parents played an important role in fulfilling her life’s goal and the conscience behind the accomplishment. As a result of their profound influence on her life, one of her key goals in her new role is to serve as an example to today's youth. Her message is simple: ambitions are doable, even if the road isn't evident right now. I am living proof that achieving your dreams with courage, kindness, and perseverance is not a cliche," she remarked.
According to the township, Dedhia is a regular contributor to the Huffington Post, Brown Girl Magazine, and The Aerogram. In the Passaic County Superior Court Clerk's Program, Dedhia received the Most Successful Mediator Award. She has competed in a national civil rights competition and is certified by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy in deposition skills.
