Netflix India Appoints Vamsi Murthy as Head of Marketing

Netflix India has appointed Vamsi Murthy as its new Senior Director, Head of Marketing, marking a key addition to its leadership team. Murthy previously served as Executive Director and Marketing Head at JioStar, where he played a pivotal role in shaping Hotstar’s consumer marketing strategy.
In a note announcing his move, Murthy said he is “Thrilled to join Netflix and lead the marketing charter in India”, adding that he looks forward to working with top creative talent to craft stories that “connect, entertain, and inspire, the Netflix way”.
Murthy brings over 18 years of marketing experience across media, entertainment, e-commerce, and digital platforms. He began his career at Radio Mirchi before moving to Reliance Communications as Manager of Marketing Communications. He later held key roles at MakeMyTrip and Myntra Jabong, where he rose to Director of Brand Marketing. His career also includes leadership positions at ZEE5 as Vice President of Marketing and at BookMyShow as Head of Marketing.

At JioStar, Murthy led Hotstar’s end-to-end consumer marketing across fiction and non-fiction programming. He drove a major transformation of entertainment marketing by introducing full-funnel strategies, creating a standardized playbook for content categories, and strengthening measurement frameworks. His work contributed to improved customer acquisition costs and stronger marketing ROI.
Murthy’s appointment signals Netflix India’s continued focus on expanding its brand presence and delivering high-impact marketing campaigns in one of its fastest-growing markets.
