Netas and Their Betas: Legendary Duos in Indian Politics

Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Muthuvel Karunanidhi, started his career as a script writer for Tamil films in Chennai. In his political career spanning more than  60 years, Karunanidhi has won every election in which he participated. His enormous family tree has extended and ruled Tamil Nadu politics diversely. Karunanidhi’s third son, M K Stalin, born to his second wife, began his political career when he campaigned in the 1967 elections. He has played the role of an MLA in Tamil Nadu Legislative assembly and a deputy Chief Minister. Stalin had already become a part of the political system and was the MLA in 1989 and 1996 when his father was the Chief Minister.

Karunanidhi has certainly encouraged his family to be a part of the growing Indian politics and has influenced other family members like Kanimozhi, M K Azhagiri to make their entry in this field.
