Net Neutrality: Govt and TRAI Look into Laws To Clearly Outline Rules

BANGALORE: The most talked about topic in the recent times is “Net Neutrality” and now it takes another turn when the government and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)   are viewing a serious concern over the perspective that there is a requirement for an open law spelling out "customs" to ensure Net neutrality. Currently there are no lawful procurements for either the administration or the controller to authorize non-unfair access to the web, reports The Indian Express.

The principle of net neutrality calls for equal treatment to be accorded to all internet traffic, without discrimination or priority for any person, entity or company.

According to The Indian Express report, “Sources in the DoT said that as things stand today, very high internet traffic growth rate is leading to network congestion and spectrum crunch, forcing TSPs to adopt traffic management tools that restrict flow of data on the Internet. They also employ a host of tariff and commercial measures that militate against principles of net neutrality, such as data caps and fair usage policy, thereby incentivizing and discriminating with select content and applications.” 

Earlier, turning out unequivocally for 'net neutrality', Congress on Tuesday requested the the officially sanctioned issues to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to scrap the dubious consultation paper in the matter and cautioned of challenges if opportunity of decision of Internet clients was bargained.
