Narayana Murthy Applauds GIFT City's Rise as a Global FinTech Powerhouse

Infosys Founder N.R. Narayana Murthy visited Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), commending its world-class infrastructure and the swift progress it has made toward becoming a global hub for financial and technology services, particularly in fintech innovation.
Murthy expressed admiration for the increasing presence of international firms and emphasized that such initiatives are essential in positioning GIFT City as a centre of excellence for financial technology. He also offered valuable suggestions to strengthen the ecosystem, advocating deeper collaboration between academia and industry to spur innovation.
During his visit, Murthy held detailed discussions with GIFT City Chairman Dr. Hasmukh Adhia, Managing Director and Group CEO Tapan Ray, and IFSCA Chairman K. Rajaraman. The leadership team briefed him on the city’s ongoing projects and strategic initiatives.
Murthy also engaged with students from Jamnabai Narsee School, Deakin University, and the University of Wollongong. Encouraging them to pursue excellence, he urged the young minds to dream big, work hard, and make meaningful contributions to society.
Notably, Infosys inaugurated a new development centre at GIFT City on June 7. Designed to accommodate over 1,000 employees operating in a hybrid model, the centre will serve as a key TechFin hub for global banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) clients. It will provide digital solutions in banking, capital markets, payments, trade finance, and risk management.
GIFT City has also made significant strides in the latest Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI 37). It improved its overall global ranking from 52nd to 46th and moved up five places in the FinTech category, reaching the 40th spot. Impressively, GIFT City topped the ‘Reputational Advantage’ category, underscoring its growing global stature.
