Nagpur's Polytechnic to Establish AI, Robotics, and IoT Training Hub
A new Centre of Excellence (CoE) on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0 and 3D printing at Government Polytechnic College, Nagpur, would transform this institution into a leading training center for emerging technologies. This centre of excellence is expected to augment the quality of training and R&D in government polytechnic and engineering colleges of Maharashtra.
A MoU was signed on 11 October 2024 at New Delhi between the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) and the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE). Key officials like Hon'ble Minister of Railways and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw and Hon'ble Minister of Higher & Technical Education for Maharashtra Shri Chandrakant Patil also attended this signing ceremony of the MoU.
The CoEs are, therefore, training, skill-development, and R&D hubs in the emerging technologies of India that will be set up within government polytechnic and engineering colleges and funded by MeitY and other government agencies through joint project proposals.
NIELIT will lead the programmes at such centers by co-coordinating with industries for developing appropriate course content and placement support services for the students. This is designed to bring the academic training in line with what the industries demand, thereby making students employable.
Currently, the Government of Maharashtra runs 40 government polytechnic institutes in the state. CoEs for IoT are already present at six polytechnics, and three institutions host CoEs for Robotics and Automation. This new initiative will add Nagpur's Government Polytechnic to such facilities, thus enlarging the scope of students exposed to advanced technology trainings and resources.
