More States Eager to Join PM Modi's Housing For All Scheme



BANGALORE: Housing for All Scheme named as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was launched on June 25, 2015 by PM Modi with a view to introduce better living in India. 305 cities across 9 states were identified under this project, reports ET.

Within 3 months of launch of the scheme, states across the nation came forward to participate into the scheme for the development of slums.

Close to 18 states have expressed interest to be a part of this scheme and are all set to sign the agreement with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.

The states that have come forward include – Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Bihar, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, West Bengal, Himachal, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Jharkhand and Nagaland. Collectively these states have proposed to implement the scheme in 532 cities.

The recent changes in the scheme would allow the financial impaired section of the society to avail for loans for building their own houses. Since the scheme has spotted some problems and has thus undergone some changes.

There have been 6 changes in the guidelines of the scheme to frame an easier process. The time period to complete a housing unit and its furnishing certificate has now been extended to 3 years from the initial 1 year.

Two crores of people are expected to benefit through this scheme.
