MONETA - The largest pan-India level financial market-based event

MONETA® is the largest pan-India level financial market-based event organized by an undergraduate college. Every year students of R. A. Podar College of Commerce and Economics (Autonomous) toil hard to put this phenomenal event together. MONETA® aspires to give impetus to the holistic development of financial literacy amongst the youth. It aims to further the knowledge to all the citizens, thus acting as an effort towards a financially literate India. Through meticulously crafted events and competitions, the festival is a treat for all finance enthusiasts. The events range from Marketing-based to even Stock Market and Management based events. Every year there is a fresh set of seminars to complement the competitions and also add on to the knowledge base of the gathered audience.

The 12th edition of MONETA® was no different. With an addition of cryptocurrency based topics and various other aspects that are relevant according to the changing times and dynamics of the current finance world. The events enriched the minds of the participants and boosted the energy. 257 colleges participated this year and it was amazing to watch the competitive zeal. Ms. Priyal Keni, Deputy Secretary-General of United Nations Youth India & Founder of Play and Shine Foundation was the perfect luminary for being our very first guest speaker for the E-Summit, a pre-event that allows young entrepreneurs to pitch their start up ideas. Mr. Nehal Vora graced our inauguration, thereby giving an enthusiastic start to the festival. He spoke about the growing interest of people in the sphere of investing and how it is developing into a mainstream trend amongst the younger generation.

For Bullring, teams pan India registered using Google form. Initial corpus of Rs 20 lacs was given per team and the participants were given trader IDs to execute the trades using the 'NSE Trading software.' Management Games, an event that revolved around a quest to find the 'Complete Manager' was spread across two rounds and judged by Adv. Abhimanyu Shandilya. The Corporate Ladder, a mid-cap, HRM-based event tested the corporate skills of participants. In 1st Round, the participants made a video clip for pitching a high potential employee to work in their company and was judged by Ms. Anushka Raut. In the 2nd round participants covered the employee life cycle, from the process of recruitment to the exit of an employee at various levels and was judged by Ms. Preeti Jain and Mr. Krishna Kumar.

Mr. Vikas Deodhar who is the ex-president of ICWAI, was invited as a judge for the event Production Paradox. Mr. Sree Iyer, innovator and inventor based in California, imparted the workings of the core processes of encryption and also explained about Cryptocurrency and the BlockChain technology. Mr. Sandeep Jain, Director of Tradeswift Broking Pvt. Ltd. gave the participants insight about the various instruments in which they can start investing from an early age like mutual funds, REITS, AIFS, etc. He also laid emphasis on the power of compounding that can do wonders if we start investing with small fractions of amounts. Manobhav, an event which promotes regional language for financial knowledge, included 2 rounds. The 1st round was a pre-submission round based on a research paper that promoted the usage of regional languages like Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and Tamil over the conventionally used English. In the 2nd round participants gave a 15 minutes presentation in their regional language and were judged by the respective judges of the various languages.

The judge for Hindi was Mrs. Rajani Gupta, for Gujarati Mrs. Sonal M. Fulzade, for Marathi Mrs. Esha Nanoti and for Tamil Mrs. Gayathri Srinivasan. Policy Prophecy, an event that works around risk management of a policy including 2 rounds. The 1st round being a quiz that tested Actuarial and insurance related concepts. In the 2nd round the participants were allotted different policies and they had put themselves in the shoes of an actuary, making a “Prophecy” whether the policy is reasonably profitable or not and presented it in front of the judge, Ms. Tanvi Doshi a qualified actuary. Legit - 'Mock Court', imitates the procedure followed in actual courts where participants presented their part of the case according to the stance allocated to them and were judged based on the understanding of the case by our judge Mr. Sacchit Joshi.

Cryptocracy, consisted of 3 rounds and was judged by Mr. Yash Gawde, Founder and CEO of Elite NFT Studio. Further on, Mr. Sankalp Pothbhare shared about his learning experience from working in organization's around the world. He also encouraged the students to build their learning curves over the years gone are the days when companies used to look for loyal employees, now the person having required skills set and expertise are promoted. The participants even benefitted from the webinar by Mr. Prashant Desai, wherein he explained how changing one's mindset about money is essential in order to keep on earning more money. Big Brand Theory, an event that revolves around building a brand in all aspects tested the creativity and out of the box thinking of the participants. The teams were given different case studies and were asked to find why it failed and how they would correct it to make it successful and were judged by Mr. Subhobroto Chakraborty.

The final round of Bizzare Quiz was a live quiz based round conducted in the KBC format containing MCQs and was conducted in the presence of the Quiz Master, Mr. Farhan Fayyaz Shaikh, Managing Director, Saffron Ads. The event, True and Fair View was judged by Mr. Suryakant Pagare- Associate Professor, Department of Accountancy in R. A. Podar College of Commerce & Economics (Autonomous). Beyond D Street, an event where the primary focus is on portfolio management consisted of 3 rounds and the whole event revolved around the corpus money that was allotted to each participant initially and was judged by Mr. Sunil Kaushik. "The Great Indian IPO rush: is it a goldilocks period for Indian tech companies?" was another informative webinar where Mr. Subrat Panda began the panel discussion by throwing light on the rising investments in India from retail investors and FIIs. Mr. Akshay Dixit spoke about the rising number of startups and venture capitalists in India and how everyone is in the run to go public as a result of which we have seen a tremendous growth in IPOs. Mr. Abhijeet Vaidya enlightened us about the growth in the tech and the edtech sector and directed us to look at technology in a more expansive manner.

The Valedictory ceremony began with the Ganpati Aarti followed by the uncovering of the MONETA® 2021 journey through a PowerPoint presentation. Our Principal, Dr. Mrs. Shobhana Vasudevan then addressed the gathering with her encouraging words. After which the MONETA® 2021 Tribune was released by our Principal and the Chief Guest.

The Chief Guest Dr. Pravin Mokashi then congratulated the team of MONETA® and directed the audience with his inspiring and motivational words. N. M. College bagged the first position, while GLC University took home the second and third position. With the given trend and a glorious past of amazing execution and creative planning, the future is only bright for Team MONETA®. We hope that the coming years will be just as grand and influential!
