MLAs Wealth Creation Is Faster Than MPs: ADR Analysis


BANGALORE: MP is bigger in the sense that they represent a larger constituency and form part of the Union Government legislature and MLA represents a smaller constituency in the State Government system, they are lesser in stature than the MPs. But still going on the facts an MLA is earning far more greater than a MP. Why so much of discrimination out there?

PC Mohan, MP from Bangalore Central, saw his possessions grow from 5 crore in 2009 to 47 crore this year, growth of a monstrous 786 percent. Even the biggest corporate cultures are not seeing such a hike!, reports Business Standard.

He isn't the only MP whose prosperity grew exponentially between the two Lok Sabha elections. According to data compiled by the Association for Democratic Reforms, the net worth of many MPs has grown in excess of 200 percent.

According to Manindra Nath Thakur of Jawaharlal Nehru University, “When it comes to economic matters, state governments have a far bigger role to play. Whether it is acquiring land for a major project or issuing a license to a private university, the role of the state government has become very important. MLAs are bound to be natural beneficiaries of this heightened economic activity,” reports Business Standard.

The preference for rich candidates is contagious in poor states. The statistics of the previous Lok Sabha Elections are even more startling as one in five candidates who worth more 1 crore won while one in 50 was those worth was less than 1 crore. As such, the possibility of rich candidates inflowing Parliament is 10 times more than that of others.
